As an undergrad at a college in California I came
upon a brochure that exclaimed "Study Abroad!" I carried it in my
backpack for a while and finally pulled it out during one particularly
uninspiring lecture and read it. The Cal State Universities had programs
in nearly every corner of the globe covering many disciplines. One popped
out: "Limnology in Sweden." I had been studying natural resources management
and my interests had been gravitating toward fisheries science so a
background in limnology, the study of lakes and ponds, would be ideal.
With some research I found out that Sweden had 10,000 lakes so there would
be no shortage of study opportunities. Any stories I heard about the
beautiful women had no influence on me whatsoever ;-).
Being broke like most students, my next thought was
how much does it cost. The program "adjusts" tuition and other fees as well
as housing so that students pay more or less what they would at home. How
about travel expense to get there? When I mentioned to my parents that I
needed a one-way ticket out of the country, surprisingly they were willing
to help foot part of the bill. Before I could really ponder my decision to
go I was there and from the very start I felt at home with the place and its
people. Here are a handful of photos I had handy. I hope to add more photos
and anectdotes about this wonderful country as time allows.
Välkommen!
